Edward L. Coyle, Ph.D.
Individual Therapy/Counseling:
Therapy or counseling is a cooperative interpersonal undertaking that is designed to reduce emotional distress, increase self-awareness and improve your relationships with others and with yourself. This is accomplished through the unique aspects of the therapeutic relationship and contract. As a therapist, my primary purpose is to first offer a safe, trusting environment that allows you to express yourself fully and with complete privacy. Unlike other interpersonal relationships, that between client and therapist is focused primarily on your needs and interests. Within the security of the session, you are able to clarify your thoughts and feelings at your own pace by exploring both the positive and negative aspects of your personal history, your unique needs and the demands placed upon you by both historical and current experience. Your responsibility is to talk openly (but only to the extent that you feel appropriate) and to be willing to engage with good faith in the work that is designed to help you do so.
