Insight and Integration:
Individual approaches and practical understanding lead to greater efficacy and satisfaction in life. When we work together, you will learn new ways of seeing yourself and will become more and more able to recognize how your personal history, your physical makeup and your social world all shape and direct your choices. Good therapy doesn’t change you from the outside, but instead it gives you the mental tools that you need to change yourself from the inside. Our therapeutic discussions will focus as needed on your family, your work and your personal identity and understanding of the world so that you can become more centered and confident in your decisions.
Approach and Influences:
My clinical approach is best described as integrative, in that I have studied and received training from many exquisitely talented therapists over the years. Some of my strongest influences include Carl Jung, Milton Erickson and Donald Winnicott. The most influential teachers I’ve learned from directly include the late Michael Mahoney, Diane Willis and Dick Rogers. All of these accomplished therapists emphasized the importance of seeing past symptoms and problems to the human being behind the symptoms. They also taught me how to focus on helping people adapt to the real world rather than avoiding the messiness and painful experiences and limitations that often have to be faced head on in order to move forward.
